Star Edge Movers branded van ready for an office relocation in Dubai

An office move should not cost your business a working day. With the right plan, you can relocate over a weekend and have your team logging in on Monday as if nothing happened. This checklist covers everything from first planning to setup, so your office relocation in Dubai runs with zero downtime.

4 to 6 weeks before: plan

Appoint a move coordinator, set the move date (a weekend or evening works best to avoid downtime), and book a mover who does a free site survey and gives a fixed written price. Create a floor plan for the new office so every desk, department and meeting room has a place before you arrive.

IT and phones: plan early

IT is where office moves succeed or fail. Well ahead of the move, arrange internet and phone line transfers (these can take weeks in the UAE), plan how servers and network equipment will be moved and reconnected, and back up critical data before anything is unplugged. Label every workstation and its cables so reconnection is fast.

2 to 3 weeks before: permits and notice

Arrange move-out and move-in permits and freight-lift bookings with building management at both offices. Commercial towers in areas like Business Bay and DIFC have strict after-hours access rules, so confirm these early. Notify staff of the plan and give them packing instructions for their own desks.

1 week before: pack and label

Have staff clear personal items and label their belongings. Professional crews pack and label IT equipment, files and furniture, keeping everything mapped to the new floor plan. Use secure crates for documents. Confirm timings with your mover and both buildings.

Move day and setup

Move outside working hours where possible. The crew dismantles, transports and reassembles workstations, and places everything to your floor plan. IT reconnects equipment using the labelled cabling. Do a walkthrough of the old office to check nothing is left behind.

After the move

Test every workstation, phone and the network before staff return. Update your business address on Google, your website, and official records. Collect access cards and parking permits for the new building. With good planning, your team walks in Monday to a working office. See our office relocation service for how we handle each step.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move an office without downtime?

Move outside working hours, usually over a weekend or overnight. A professional crew dismantles and labels everything after staff leave, transports and reassembles it, and IT reconnects equipment so the team returns to a working office.

How far in advance should I plan an office move in Dubai?

Start four to six weeks ahead. Internet and phone transfers and building permits take time, so early planning is what makes a zero-downtime move possible.

Do movers handle IT equipment and servers?

Yes. Star Edge packs, labels and transports computers, monitors and network equipment, with cabling bagged and labelled per desk for fast reconnection. Live server migrations are coordinated with your IT team.

Do I need permits to move office in Dubai?

Usually yes. Most commercial buildings require move-in and move-out permits and freight-lift bookings. We arrange these with building management at both locations.

How much does an office relocation cost in Dubai?

It depends on the number of workstations, IT equipment and distance. After a free site survey you get one fixed price in writing covering crew, transport, materials and insurance.
